History of the Breed The Beefmaster breed has grown since Mr.Tom Lasater developed the breed in the 1930's. Mr. Lasater developed Beefmasters through a process of crossing Hereford, Shorthorn and Brahman cattle, resulting in a Beefmaster being approximately 25% Hereford, 25% Shorthorn and 50% Brahman. The breed has no color standards, and although the most common color has been red, there are many black Beefmasters on the market today.
